Figure 4: CSWG, Chapel of Mary and the Angels, The Monastery of Christ the Saviour, Hove, East Sussex, UK.
The wall paintings are by Russian iconographer Joanna Reitlinger (born St Petersburg, 1898, died Tashkent, 1988). The paintings are on woodend pannels. (They are not frescoes.) They were on loan from the Fellowship of St Alban and St Sergius.
The icons in the sanctuary depict the heavenly worship of the saints and angels. Here the focus of the worship is Christ enthroned in glory. In the chapel, largely for practical reasons, the crucifix hangs in the sanctuary, rather than at the gateway of this area. Nevertheless, it still serves to link heaven and earth.
